The dangers of the railway were spelled out to youngsters living near one of the region's worst stations for trespassing and vandalism.

The warning to students at Hilltop Junior School, in Hill Avenue, Wickford, comes just as children break up for the long summer holiday.

All 350 students, aged seven to 11, were to be warned of the dangers of playing or trespassing on the railway by Railtrack schools liaison officer Karen Celisse.

A number of schools in Wickford have been visited as the area has growing problems with incidents on the railway.
