Southend United striker Mark Rawle declared himself fit for the new Third Division season with a 90-minute run-out during Blues' 5-0 friendly goal spree at Halstead Town last night (Wednesday).
Midfielder Leon Hunter opened the scoring for the Shrimpers in the first-half, finding the top right hand corner of the Jewson League side's net with a 30-yard rocket.
And the floodgates opened after the break, with young defender Daniel Lunan doubling Blues' advantage straight after the restart.
Forward Jason Harris netted a third in acrobatic style after connecting with Danny Kerrigan's pass and Rawle, who has been dogged by a knee injury during pre-season, fired home after another effort from Lunan had been parried.
Substitute Danny Pitts kept a cool head to control the ball and tuck a fifth goal past the Halstead goalkeeper to complete the rout.
