Steve Whitton has revealed his pleasure and surprise at the way young midfielders Thomas Pinault and Kemal Izzet are setting the Second Division alight.
And the U's boss was equally enthusiastic about his sharp-shooting double strike force, Kevin Rapley and Scott McGleish, who currently boast nine goals between them.
The talented quartet all played a big part as the ten-man U's maintained their place at the top of the table, jointly with Brentford and Huddersfield, after hitting the winning trail again with a 3-1 home win over Northampton.
Rapley, with four goals for the season, and McGleish, with five, both hit the mark inside the first six minutes, while Pinault and Izzet once again dominated the midfield alongside the experienced Micky Stockwell.
Whitton said: "I don't really like singling out any player because our current success is built around good all-round team performances.
"But pitching in Thomas and Kemi was the biggest decision I have had to make and I have to admit I am pleasantly surprised at the way they are playing together.
Whitton is equally ecstatic at the way his new strike force McGleish and Rapley have started the season.
He said: "Strikers thrive on goals and Scotty and Kevin are on fire at the moment."
The only black mark on an otherwise magnificent result against the Cobblers was the 55th minute sending-off for in-form central defender David Gregory for a professional foul on Jamie Forrester.
