Train services were brought to a standstill when a lorry hit a barrier at Harwich International Port.
The lorry went over the crossing and the trailer came off, crashing into a pedestal and bringing down overhead cables.
British Transport Police from Ipswich were called to the incident at 2.15pm yesterday when they cleared the track and called overhead engineers to repair the cables.
Investigating officer PC Robert Brignall said he would be carrying out further investigations into the cause of the accident.
Trains were brought to a halt for three hours and First Great Eastern put on a bus service. No-one was injured.
