Pressure is to be kept up for top level talks to be held with the Ministry of Defence in a bid to reduce noise and vibration suffered by residents along the Essex coast.

A deputation from Tendring and north Essex went on a visit to the ranges at Shoeburyness - which are claimed to be the cause of the problems.

The trip gave people the chance to see the operation for themselves.

The delegation included representatives from Tendring Council, St Osyth Parish Council, MP for Harwich Ivan Henderson and residents and now efforts are underway to stage a meeting with the MoD to discuss the issues.

The people of Tendring have also been backed by Colchester Borough Council, Maldon District Council and Canterbury City Council.

They are also concerned about the effects of the explosions on coastal properties.

North Essex MP Bernard Jenkin has also been contacted in the hopes of setting up a meeting with the defence minister.

Mr Jenkin believes it is best to wait until further monitoring has been carried out during the winter months but all the councils involved feel the talks should not be put off.

In a special report to members of Tendring Council's cabinet, councillors have been told that the pressure will be kept up.
