Friends of a biker who died in a freak accident presented a cheque to charity in his memory.

Fundraising events and donations helped raise more than £1,200 for the RNLI in honour of Justin Barker.

A cheque was presented to Harwich RNLI, where 26-year-old Mr Barker was a member.

The handover was made at The Billy, in Harwich, where some of the fundraising events had been held, including a 70s theme night, head shave and chest wax.

Mr Barker's friend Zoe Griggs, who works at the pub, said he was a regular drinker there and his friends and family wanted to do something in his memory.

Other money was raised by donations which were given instead of flowers at Mr Barker's funeral.

The donation will be used to provide training facilities at the new lifeboat station on Harwich Quay.

Captain Rod Shaw, of Harwich RNLI, said: "Justin was a strong supporter of the Harwich Lifeboat, with a number of his close friends as crew members.

"It is a fitting tribute that the money raised in memory of Justin should assist new crew train to become competent volunteer lifesavers."

Mr Barker, of Main Road, Dovercourt, died in an accident last year.

His bike collided with a railing which had become detached from an overhead bridge on the A120 near Great Bromley.
