The manager of Southend's biggest employer of disabled people is taking to the high seas for a holiday with a difference.
Mike Wood, manager of Remploy, in Sutton Road, Southend, will battle harsh winds and rolling swell between England and France for five days while acting as a buddy for a disabled person.
It will be the first time that Mike, 56, has been on a sailing boat and the trip will be on the tall ship Tenacious.
Mike said: "Although I work with disabled people I wanted to do something a bit special with my holiday time. I am a swimming instructor and a first aider so feel that I have something to offer. I am thoroughly looking forward to the challenge."
The voyage has been organised by the charity the Jubilee Sailing Trust, which arranges for able-bodied people to accompany a disabled person and help them learn how to sail.
Mike with leave from Southampton on April 15.
