More than 60 mourners gathered to remember the nation's favourite grandmother and to give thanks for her life yesterday.
And more than one mourner had a special tale to tell of the effect she had on their lives.
The Queen Mother was a legend in her lifetime, said mourners Mary and Michael Wyatt. (20655-1)
Vice Dean of Chelmsford Cathedral the Canon Walter King conducted the specially adapted Communion Service.
Speaking before the service he said: "A lot of people have got particular memories of the Queen Mother but not everyone can get up to London.
"We felt there are people who would like to gather and remember together.
"I never met her but she had such an obviously strong Christian faith. She was quite an inspiration, she was a living faith."
Addressing the congregation, Mr King highlighted the Queen Mother's "unweary devotion to duty" and her courage before leading the passionate throng in a rendition of Psalm 90.
