Developers who wanted to build housing for the disabled on the site of former St John Ambulance headquarters have had their hopes finally dashed by a planning inspector.
Turnhold Properties lodged an appeal with the Department of the Environment after Thurrock Council rejected an application to build four bungalows for the elderly and disabled on the site in College Road, Grays.
The council's development control committee felt that Turnhold was trying to cram four bungalows on a site which could only accommodate three.
An inquiry into Turnhold's appeal has now been completed and the DoE inspector has upheld the council's decision.
Turnhold has already had a second scheme turned down by the council.
