New signing Wayne Vaughan bagged the only goal of the game as Purfleet began the season with victory over Alan Devonshire's Maidenhead United.
Vaughan, who moved from Canvey Island in pre-season, was on hand in the 20th minute to convert Mark Goodfellow's run and cross. Either side of that, Purfleet created a number of chances, with Adrian Allen and Danny Jones shootly wildly when well placed.
The second period was a different story however, with new Maidenhead striker Lawrence Yaku coming into his own. First, Alex O'Reilly reacted well to deny the United no.9, and the former Northwood man then saw a glancing header come back off the post.
Purfleet held on for the three points though and travel the short distance to Heybridge next weekend.
