The Essex Air Ambulance fund has been given a £500 boost thanks to generous firefighters.

The cash was raised at a charity ball organised by Leigh firefighters, which was attended by former Eastenders star Martine McCutcheon and more than 200 other guests.

David Philpot, head of fundraising for Essex Air Ambulance who collected the cash, said: "This money is a welcome boost. We continue to be pleasantly surprised by the incredible generosity of the people of Southend and Leigh."
