A three-year old girl suffered serious head injuries after she fell 30ft from a top floor window.

The child toppled on to concrete from the back bedroom window of a semi-detached house in Green Lane, Walton.

Essex Air Ambulance was called to the scene just before 5pm yesterday.

A Clacton police spokesman said today: "A child fell out of a window and hit her head on the concrete.

"It was about a 30ft drop."

A land ambulance crew arrived at the scene and took the girl to the air ambulance, which then rushed her to Colchester General Hospital.

A hospital spokeman said the girl was later transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.

At the house today, a member of the girl's family, who refused to be named, praised the emergency services for their speed.

The man said: "We appreciate everything the air ambulance did. She is at Cambridge and she is stable."
