South Woodham Ferrers: National cycling centre planned

Marsh Farm Park at South Woodham Ferrers is one of those to be designated as national cycling centre by the Cyclist Touring and Campaigning Club (CTC).

Its inclusion in the scheme will see it provide a range of signposted routes tailored for cyclists of all ages and abilities as well as facilities like refreshments, a visitor's centre and toilets.

A CTC spokesman said: "All the routes are of varying difficulty so that the whole family can use them and it is hoped that families will take advantage of the school holidays to try them out although they are also suited for advanced cyclists."

The cyclist routes will be promoted throughout the UK and it is hoped this will result in an increase of visitors to Essex's country parts from outside the county.

The other Essex parks are at Thorndon Country Park and Weald Country Park, Brentwood, Belhaus Woods at South Ockendon, Dudmore Grove at East Mersea and Flitch Way at Braintree.
