A man has been jailed after he was found wandering around inside an old people's home.
Jason Patmore, of Vega Close, Colchester, had been spotted in a corridor of the Eastham older people's home at Woodham Ferrers on October 31, a court heard.
Manager Ann Waite asked him what he was doing and he said he was lost and had been looking for the Bell pub.
She became suspicious as the pub was across the road and escorted him from the building, Chelmsford Crown Court heard.
Staff found an office had been entered but nothing was stolen.
A bloodstain found on a door was DNA tested and this matched a sample taken from 27-year-old Patmore.
He admitted a charge of burglary with intent to steal when he appeared in court and was jailed for 2 and a half years yesterday.
Alison Levitt, mitigating, said the burglary had been "stupid and opportunistic" and took place at a time when Patmore had a drug habit.
