Beer prices in East Anglia have risen by a record eight pence in the past year, according to new figures.
But it hasn't affected alcohol sales in south Essex pubs, with customers moaning initially, but soon accepting the increases.
Steve Hartley, head barman at The Hamlet Court pub in Hamlet Court Road, Westcliff, said: "It's been almost 10p on a pint this year which is quite a big increase.
"The customers do notice it at first but then they carry on drinking as much as they were before. It hasn't affected our beer sales at all."
The publican's 2002 market report reveals an average pint of bitter in East Anglia now costs £1.91 and a pint of lager is £2.14.
In south Essex pubs, the price of a pint of bitter is around £2.10 while lager sells at £2.30 a pint.
In comparison, the national average is £1.86 for beer and £2.07 for lager.
