The driving force behind an information centre today told of his joy after an essential helpline for carers in Castle Point was thrown a last minute lifeline.
Gerry Moore, centre development manager at Thundersley's Tyrells Centre, felt the carers' helpline was doomed after volunteers failed to come forward to help man the phones.
However the line, which gives advice and important numbers to carers who look after elderly and sick relatives across the borough, will stay alive thanks to three new volunteers.

The Evening Echo reported last month how the service was in dire straits and would have to close before the end of August if help was not found.
Now Gerry can't hide his happiness at the unexpected turnaround largely thanks to Suzie Brutnell, co-ordinator of Castle Point's Volunteer Bureau based in the Seamore Avenue centre.
He said: "Suzie has been able to recruit three new volunteers just as it seemed we were running out of time."
He said: "We will soon be able to offer a bigger service which will still incorporate counselling, advocacy and advice for those carers who need it."
The line operates from 10am till 4pm between Monday and Friday on 01268 638413.
