Wickford: Safety camera not wired up

An accident blackspot has finally got its own speed camera - but it has sat unused for six weeks because police are still waiting for the electricity to be connected.

It has been installed in Runwell Road, Wickford, but the covers remain firmly on and police said today they still have no idea when bosses at electricity company 24Seven will wire it up.

However, 24Seven says it was told not to go ahead with the work until it got notification from contractors last week and that the camera will now be wired up next week.
