Westcliff: Woodyard win for residents

Campaigners have won their battle to stop 40 new homes being built on a derelict woodyard in Westcliff.

In an unexpected move, Tory councillors abstained from voting, allowing Lib Dems and Labour to refuse the controversial scheme for the old Mansfield woodyard in Fairfax Drive.

It follows months of campaigning by residents who opposed the development.
