Colchester United were today on the brink of a £150,000 windfall after former hero Mark Kinsella looked poised for a switch to Aston Villa.

The Republic of Ireland star could be joined by international team-mate Matt Holland, who is also considering a move to the midlands.

The U's have a sell-on clause for ex-midfielder Kinsella in the region of 20 per cent who is thought to have been offered a two-year deal at Villa Park.

And Graham Taylor's side have had a knockdown £750,000 bid accepted by Charlton which means £150,000 could be on its way to Layer Road.

U's boss Steve Whitton today told the Evening Gazette: "Villa are getting a quality midfielder for a knockdown price. Mark is a star player who has just come back from the World Cup."

Meanwhile, Ipswich Town have reluctantly agreed a fee thought to be in the region of £4 million for skipper Holland.
