A woman who recently found out she had lung cancer was found hanging in her home, an inquest heard.
John Minney told an inquest at Weeley yesterday his wife, Pamela, 65, had been diagnosed with lung cancer in January.
He said on June 19, he had gone to the shops at about 9.30am to get the newspapers and when he returned to their home in Landermere Road, Thorpe, he found his wife in the bedroom.
Nick Waltham, coroner's officer for the Tendring Division, said Mrs Minney was hanging from a dog lead in the bedroom wardrobe.
A post-mortem examination revealed the cause of death as hanging.
A note was found in the kitchen, written on the back of a passport photograph.
Essex coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray said she was not satisfied that Mrs Minney had intended to take her own life and recorded an open verdict.
