A giant green tiger has been spotted prowling the walkways of a Basildon shopping centre, but it is environmental awareness rather than tasty shoppers that tops its menu.
The massive cat, christened Tiger Greenwood, is the mascot of the Eastgate Shopping Centre's two-week long campaign to highlight the importance of recycling and encourage environmental awareness at home and work.
Centre manager Hans Wustefeld said: "Tiger Greenwood is ten feet tall, eye-catching and friendly and symbolises the strength of character shown by those who commit themselves to a greener future."
To kick off the fortnight, the British Standards Institute presented the centre with an award for its high environmental standards, following its victory in the environment category of the Evening Echo's Basildon District Business Awards 2002.
