Thorpe Hall Golf Club stage their Junior Open today and it includes one of the last qualifying rounds for the 2002 Daily Telegraph/Kellogg's Championship finals, to be staged in Sun City, South Africa.
A total of 50 local golfers were set to tee off from 8am hoping to gain in a place in this fabulous event which has produced golfers who have gone on to become household names such as Andrew Coltart in 1986 and Justin Rose in 1997.
Last year's Thorpe Hall winner Jack Margetts, a three-handicapper from Warley Park, is defending his title but is likely to be pushed hard by scratch man Tommy Hunter and local up-and-coming stars such as Alex Andrews, David Tintori, Pat Griffiths and Rhys Piper.
All these have enjoyed success at club and country level. Other players looking for a breakthrough include Ricky Winn, from the Essex Club, Garon Park, and George Grimes. Both play off five.
