Let's brush up the borough. This is the aim of Castle Point councillors Joe Cooke, lead member for health and environment, and Brian Weller, lead member for transportation, who are showing the way.

They are urging residents to highlight where rubbish is piling up by calling a special litter hotline, as well as raising the matter at area forum meetings.

Castle Point Council leader Dave Wells said: "It will be put on the agendas of all the area forums so people can tell us which places need most attention."

The scheme will now be debated by the community services committee on September 17.
