Chelmsford City are still winless, though would have been content with a point against Worcester City at New Lodge on Saturday.
The Clarets took the lead a minute before the break when Steve Sanders fired an outstanding drive into the top corner from the edge of the box.
City, visibly buoyed on by the goal, provided all the running for the next ten minutes, with Ansah Owusu showing great pace and aggression down the right flank.
But Worcester were always likely to come back into the game, and with a quarter of an hour left to play gained their reward when Darren Middleton tucked away a penalty.
Former Luton man Phil Gray had the last chance of the match for Chelmsford, but his header failed to trouble visiting keeper McDonnell. A point nonetheless for Paul Parker's men, who make the short journey to Cambridge City on Bank Holiday Monday.
