Police were today hunting a man who tried to snatch a two-year-old boy from his mother's car.
The man tried to force down the window of a black BMW parked in Pound Lane, Pitsea, before fleeing when confronted by the 27-year-old woman.
The woman, who had taken her ten-week-old daughter inside her home before returning for her son, ran out of her house and the man escaped in the direction Sadlers Farm.
The man is described as white, in his 40s, medium build, about 5ft 9ins tall, with brown untidy hair, and a goatee beard.
He was wearing an orange T-shirt and dark trousers. The incident happened between 2pm and 3pm on Friday.
A police spokesman said: "We are treating this as attempted abduction."
