An 18-year-old girl was raped on a walkway at the top of Southend High Street, police revealed today.
Now they are appealing for witnesses to anything suspicious in the area of Victoria Plaza, or on the circular ramp down to the High Street where the offence took place.
The shocked victim reported the incident straight after it happened at around 10pm on Friday night.
Det Con Matt Hussey of Southend CID said: "We especially would like to talk to an elderly couple who we believe were walking past the alleged incident at the time, but we haven't been able to trace them."
"We would like to hear from anyone who saw a young couple on the escalator up to Victoria Plaza on on the ramp which winds down."
A 20-year-old man is helping police with their inquries.
