Heybridge Swifts failed to halt St Albans' winning run, falling 2-0 at Clarence Park this afternoon in the Ryman League Premier.

Defeat drops the Swifts into the relegation places, with only only one point to show from their opening three league matches. Campbell and Sippetts hit the goals for City who have recovered admirably after being threatened with extinction this time last season.

Braintree remain one off the bottom of the Ryman Premier and only have Kingstonian's ban on league fixtures to thank for keeping them off the bottom. Town, suffering real financial difficulties at present, lost 2-1 at home to Alan Devonshire's Maidenhead United this afternoon.

Canvey Island looked to be back on the winning trail following Saturday's home success over Hitchin. But manager Jeff King continues to find cracks in the Gulls' armoury with their third league defeat this afternoon, falling 2-1 at The Camrose, home of Basingstoke Town. Neville Roach's double did the damage, with the Islanders hitting back but unable to find an equaliser.

Billericay slipped to 4th after a 0-0 home stalemate with Hendon, while Bishop's Stortford continued their excellent start to the season, holding title favourites Aldershot Town to a 1-1 draw, with Vinnie John hitting the goal at Woodside Park after John Nutter had given the Shots a half-time lead.

Grays still can't find that elusive first win. Athletic drew one apiece with Enfield in North London today, while Purfleet continue to confound their critics and now sit second in the table after comfortably disposing of Bedford Town 3-0 at Lakeside with strikes from Akurang, Lawrence and a Jackman own goal.

In the Dr Martens League, Chelmsford City recorded their first win of the campaign, 3-2 at near rivals Cambridge City. Tony Samuels, Ian Wiles and Phil Gray got the goals for Paul Parker's men.
