The Shrimpers were today toasting a successful bank holiday weekend after back-to-back wins.

Rob Newman's men defeated Oxford 1-0 on Saturday thanks to Mark Rawle and picked up another three points with a 2-1 victory over Cambridge United at Roots Hall yesterday afternoon.

Stephen Broad opened the scoring after seven minutes from skipper Kevin Maher's corner from the right.

Omer Riza levelled for the visitors in the 28th minute, before Maher set up the second for the hosts after 30 minutes when his left-wing pass was met by Jay Smith, who fired home from six yards.

The game was watched by a 4,462-strong crowd and was refereed by Billericay's Andy D'Urso.

The result lifts Blues up to 10th in the Division Three standings.
