A record-breaking village fete has exceeded targets for a second year running.
Despite some ominous clouds, more than 2,500 people flocked to the August Bank Holiday fete in the grounds of St Michael's Church, Kirby.
Even though it attracted half the number of visitors, organisers estimate a profit of about £9,500 almost a third more than last year.
The fete, which returned last summer after a year's absence, proved once again a great fundraiser for local needs including money towards a children's play area in Kirby Cross.
Viv Moffat, secretary to the fete committee that spearheaded the campaign to resurrect the event, said it was a "brilliant result".
The money raised will also go towards St Michael's Church and Frinton and Walton's Home Support Group, which provides care for cancer sufferers
