Brutal Mark Court wanted to get even with his best pal after they argued over a girl.
So drink-crazed Court went to the home of Paul Sinclair and hit him over the head with a hammer.
When Mr Sinclair asked why he had done it, Court produced a craft knife and slashed his face. It required 30 stitches. But the terrifying revenge attack did not stop there.
As Mr Sinclair was receiving treatment at Basildon Hospital, Court, of Dock Road, Tilbury, rushed in and punched him in the face.
The 23-year-old thug pleaded guilty at Basildon Crown Court to unlawful wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He was jailed for four years.
Court's barrister, Maria Dineen, said: "The defendant tells me he is shocked and very distressed by what happened to his best friend.
"The defendant was clearly fuelled by alcohol at the time. He tells me he hopes Mr Sinclair gets over his injuries and can again lead a normal life."
