Nasser Hussain's England endured a dispiriting final day of the third Test at Headingley - but that did not stop the captain aiming a parting shot at India.

The Essex man's manful hundred failed to get anywhere near preventing the tourists levelling up at 1-1 via yesterday's innings-and-46-run victory to wrest the initiative from England as they set their sights on next month's series decider at The Oval.

England's morale immediately suffered another blow with confirmation that Andrew Flintoff will almost certainly be absent from the final Test due to a hernia operation this week.

Even so Hussain claims India will be just as much under the microscope as the hosts when they bid to win their first series outside the sub-continent since they got the better of England in this country 16 years ago.

"They played better cricket than us here - but there is a lot of pressure on them to win that last Test match," said Hussain.

"They have to win that, and I am sure they will have a few butterflies in that game."
