A driver was today in hiding "for his own safety" after he was viciously attacked in Thurrock.
The victim received knife injuries to both his hands after in the attack in Moore Avenue, South Stifford.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack, which happened when a white van and a white Ford Mondeo forced a black BMW to stop in Moore Avenue.
The drivers of the white vehicles approached the BMW, one of them slashing the car's tyres and the other inflicting the injuries on the victim while he was still sitting in the driver's seat.
A spokesman for Essex Police said the victim, a 20-year-old local man, was taken to Basildon Hospital and then transferred to a secret address "for his own safety".
The knife-man was in his late 30s, of stocky build with short, black hair, greying on top.
