An excellent strike from Joe Keith strike gave Colchester United the win against a Peterborough side who lost for the fourth successive time at home.
In a low-key bank holiday encounter, Keith found the top corner of the net with a free-kick 10 minutes from the end.
The home side only managed two attempts on goal, both from striker Roger Willis.
U's goalkeeper Richard McKinney tipped one shot onto the crossbar. Willis also headed onto the roof of the net.
With a minute to go, Mark Warren saw red after being shown a second yellow.
On Saturday Colchester had put up a brave fight against high-flying Brentford at Layer Road but went down to a second successive defeat.
In a game the U's were unfortunate to lose, Brentford secured the three points with a penalty in first-half injury-time.
Stephen Hunt for the visitors fired home the penalty after the referee decided that Danny Steele had brought down Brentford's Mark McCammon in the box.
The visitors had much of the second half possession without creating many clear-cut opportunities. Richard McKinney however did well to save a powerful shot from Leo Roget.
