A teenager fears she could be left blind in one eye following a horrific incident in a town centre nightclub
Police today made a public appeal for information as part of their investigation.
The 18-year-old, of Braintree, was struck in the face with a broken bottleneck as she stood with a crowd of people in Duke's Genesis nightclub in Duke Street, Chelmsford at about 1.30am last Tuesday.
DC Claire Bailey, of Chelmsford police, who is investigating the case, said the blow had caused permanent damage to one of the woman's eyes but it is not known how extensive the damage will be.
"Her sight is going to be seriously affected by it, but whether she is going to lose it fully we don't know yet," she said.
Police arrested a person on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm following the incident at the Duke Street club, but they were later released on bail without being charged, pending further inquiries.
Anyone with information should call DC Bailey on 01245 212519.
