The Buffaloes are coming. Tendring's tourist trade is to get a massive boost with the influx of more than 1,200 visitors to a worldwide conference next year, it has been confirmed.

About 600 delegates and their families will be travelling to the event to be staged at the Princes Theatre, Clacton, in May.

Final arrangements and bookings have now been made for the five-day conference for the Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes

Klaus McMinn, provincial grand secretary for Essex, said a great deal of work had taken place between representatives and Tendring Council to get the event to Clacton between May 26 and 30.

"People will be coming from all over the world with their families and they usually stay the week or even for a fortnight."

Mr McMinn said: "Clacton has all the facilities that we need and the final plans have now been drawn up.

"We will be taking over most of the hotels and guesthouses and some will be staying on the holiday parks."

Tendring councillor Roy Raby, who is a member of the order, said he was delighted the conference was coming to Clacton.
