A terrified mother today described a man she saw trying to snatch her son from her car as "scum".
Hermione Carleton, 27, from Pound Lane, Pitsea, says she had parked her black BMW on her driveway after a trip to Lakeside shopping centre and took her shopping and ten-week-old daughter Tiffany inside while her son Christopher slept in the back.
"I looked out of the window and saw someone trying to get the window down and take him" she said.
"I ran out and screamed at him and he shouted something back before running off."
The white man, who was around 5ft 9ins tall, in his 40s, of medium build, with brown untidy hair and a goatee beard, ran off in the direction of Sadlers Farm.
She said: "I feel as if I am going to bump into him or something and I am pretty frightened to leave the house. The whole ordeal was absolutely terrifying and I would not like to see it happen to anyone else."
