A memorial service will be organised to commemorate the floods of 1953 which devastated Harwich.
Harwich Town Council agreed something should be done to mark the 50th anniversary of the floods in February next year.
Town councillor Lawrie Payne suggested at a meeting last night it should help to arrange a civic church service on February 2.
He said: "Being in the fire service, which would have been heavily involved, I've got some understanding of what it would have been like."
