Police were today hunting a knifeman who stabbed his victim twice in the head on Southend seafront.

The shocking attack resulted in the victim, a man in his mid-twenties, needing 36 stitches for his injuries.

The victim was walking along the seafront with a friend in the early hours of the morning when they both stopped outside the Orient Express restaurant in Marine Parade.

They walked near two other men, one of whom suddenly started to shout abuse at the victim's friend before launching an attack with a knife.

The attacker was white, aged between 19 and 22, of average build with short, naturally blonde hair in a scruffy style. He wore a long-sleeved top.

Police are hoping witnesses may have seen the attacker who is around 5ft 11ins tall, with short hair and was wearing grey three-quarter length trousers.

Police have only just released details of the attack which took place between 2am and 3am on Saturday August 17.
