An urgent call was today made for new safety measures to be introduced on Tendring's most dangerous road.

The move follows the death of 41-year-old Beverley Brace, of Tewkesbury Road, Clacton, after her car crossed to the opposite side of the A133 and hit a tree.

The accident happened close to the Little Chef restaurant.

Safety measures needed - A section of the A133

The A133 Colchester to Clacton road has seen more fatal road accidents over the past year than the A12 and A120 put together.

Roy Smith, Tendring district and Essex county councillor, is now calling for a full investigation into the situation.

"I am worried about how many more deaths there have to be along this stretch of road before something is done to improve safety," he said.

"I am now going to take the matter up with Ron Williams, the county council's transport cabinet member, to see if a full route study can be carried out on the road as a matter of priority," he said.

In May, county council transport chiefs told the Evening Gazette that a route study was planned for the A133, but would only be carried out when there were sufficient funds available.

Police are appealing for any other witnesses to the accident at 6.30am on Monday to contact them on 01206 762512
