Colchester has been given a major boost with news that music giant HMV is coming to town.

HMV is set to take over the former Mothercare centre in Lion Walk Shopping Centre.

It will be the firm's first ever outlet in the town.

The 15-year deal was secured by ISIS Property. HMV will be paying £335,000 each year to rent the 8,900 sq ft plot.

The exact number of new jobs set to be created is still unclear and the opening date for the new store is yet to be announced.

Caroline Bridge, of ISIS Property, said: "Lion Walk's position as a prime pitch has been cemented by HMV's decision to take space here for its first Colchester store.

"As well as bringing another popular retailer to the town's thriving retail scene, this letting is a significant step in our ongoing programme of attracting top name stores to the centre."
