An experimental scheme could soon be introduced to try to stop some of the major traffic snarl ups in Southend town centre.
The traffic and parking committee on Thursday will be asked to consider proposals to make Alexandra Street, one of the town's major traffic arteries, two way between Royal Mews and Clarence Road.
Originally suggested by council leader Charles Latham, the plan is designed to improve access to the car parks in Alexandra Street.
At the moment, all traffic from the car park, which is on the site of the original Southend police station and courthouse, has to turn east into the town centre.
