A fearful Canvey mum has blasted Anglia Water for not cleaning up a street she labelled a "health hazard".

Maxine Beach, 42, of New Road, said her street became an open sewer after heavy rain caused a drain to overflow.

The street was littered with toilet paper, condoms and other nasties.

Mrs Beach said: "The sewer is in the middle of the road in front of my house.

"The heavy rainfall forced the cover to lift and lots of sewage seeped out."

An Anglia Water spokesman said: "Unfortunately we are fighting the forces of nature at the moment and have been inundated with calls."
