A woman was left shattered after burglars stole her father's ashes while she tended to her terminally-ill grandmother.

Michelle Shani, of Woolmergreen, Basildon, was burgled while she was at her grandmother's home.

Burglars entered Michelle's house, taking some of her mother's jewellery along with a small oak box containing her father Ray's ashes.

"They took my mum's stuff, mostly jewellery, but what we really want back are the ashes because of the sentimental value they hold."
