Wickford: Carpet con trick

Cruel tricksters who prey on the elderly were today being hunted by police.

Police believe the con artists in a dark-coloured BMW - one in her 50s - might be responsible for a number of bogus calls.

Two elderly women were left distressed in separate incidents in Wickford on April 25.

Tricksters entered their homes and then asked the pensioners to hand over cash for new carpets.

One of the con artists is described as between 50 and 60-years-old, 5ft tall, with fair hair and dressed in a smart light-coloured suit. She is also believed to walk with a limp. Call 01268 532212 if you can help police.
