Harwich tax payers face a large rise in their bills next year - but some of it is in a good cause.
Harwich Town Council has agreed to a precept of £133,000 for 2004/05. That works out at £23.74 for a Band D charge payer, up £7.67 more than last year.
However, there are two large extra items on next year's budget. The council has set aside £22,000 for the 400th anniversary celebrations of the town's royal charter.
In addition, the council has had to pay £24,000 towards a collapsed drain that closed off part of Main Road, Dovercourt, earlier this year.
Mayor Les Double said: "I think they have been kept at very good levels, bearing in mind where we could have gone as a council."
