Kelvin Davis today gave the thumbs-up to Ipswich Town's signing of former team-mate Nathan Abbey.
The Blues goalkeeper progressed through the youth ranks with Abbey during their time together at Luton.
And, reacting to yesterday's one-month signing of the 25-year-old shotstopper, Davis told the Evening Gazette: "It's a great opportunity for Nathan.
"He's a nice guy and very keen to learn and progress - I know he wouldn't let the side down if called upon."
Town have been allowed to sign Abbey before the transfer window reopens because he is currently without a club.
He started his career with Luton before moving to Chesterfield on a free transfer and then Northampton in 2002.
This season, he had short spells with Stevenage and Macclesfield and Davis said: "Now he finds himself close to playing for Ipswich Town.
"It's difficult for me to say what a great keeper he is because people will wonder why he hadn't got a club.
"But he's certainly someone I rate highly. He's played some good football in his career and I believe he could be a useful signing here."
