Struggling Wakering picked up a home point against in-form Wealdstone at Burroughs Park in a Ryman Division One North clash that was generally dominated by stubborn defences.

Wealdstone, on the fringes of the promotion race and having beaten the village side 5-0 at home earlier in the season, lost the services of goalkeeper Charlie Leary on the half-hour. He pulled a muscle when kicking-out a back pass.

Outfield substitute Dave Ryan took over between the sticks, but the visitors might have led by then. Home goalkeeper Dave Hudson palmed away a Rob Courtnage corner and finger-tipped Richard Jolly's effort onto the woodwork.

Hudson also did well with a brave dive at the feet of Marvin Morgan, but Wakering also had their moments on the attacking front, with Gary Ewers and Deakin setting up Mark Hampshire for an effort which stand-in stopper Ryan saved with his legs.
