A village near Southend could soon be getting its own skateboard facility.

Rochford district councillors are to consider the possible provision of a skateboard park at Great Wakering. This could be done at the same time as replacing wooden play equipment at the village playspace, which was installed in the 1980s and is coming to the end of its useful life.

In a report to the community services committee, director Roger Crofts said the parish council had contacted officers about providing skateboarding facilities.

He added this provision would be subject to a contribution from the parish council and, depending on the scale of the equipment, could require planning permission.

A public consultation would also be needed before a skateboard area could be provided.
