Alan Milsom beat the cold snap to win Sunday's Gloucester Park Open with a cracking silverfish haul.

There had been fears that the sharp overnight frost might limit catches, but Milson shone through with a whopping 24lb 1oz 8dr total.

And more than two thirds of the large entry weighed in double-figure catches thanks to tremendous roach sport.

Milsom fished the incoming canal where he used a pole and caster baits to take fish throughout the match.

As well as almost 20lb of roach he netted three chub for a further 4lb 12oz 8dr.

Second place went to Gloucester Park regular Neil Payne, who weighed in a 20lb 6oz mixed haul from the eastern end of the island. He also fished a pole and weighed in a carp, tench, crucians and bream.

Browning Wickford Angling Centre squad member Peter Steward was close behind to take third with 20lb 3oz of roach. He fished the western end of the island where he took his catch using pole and caster.
