A consultation on traffic-calming measures in a Hadleigh rat-run has been abandoned following opposition from residents.
Some residents wanted the full closure of St Michael's Road at its junction with the A127 to stop traffic using adjacent Bramble Road in Daws Heath as a short cut.
But after Castle Point Council said it would consult residents on the closure proposals, it was met with fierce opposition.
Nigel Thomas, director of technical services, said: "Some residents said they would like to see the road closed. They only wanted it closed for anyone but themselves, but that isn't possible. We looked at possible alternatives, such as making it one way.
"We received tremendous opposition to this."
